Maintain Healthy Relationship with Technology

Here is How You Can Maintain Healthy Relationship with Technology

Do you know technology also affects your body and mind as food does? You all know that a fibre-rich diet is right for your health, but do you keep eating that the whole day? Of course, not. Excess of everything is bad. Even if oranges are suitable for your skin and heart, you can keep eating them the whole day.

Consumption of everything has to be moderate. The same goes for technology. You all are living in a technological world swarming with smartphones, Amazon Alexa and Echo, streaming platforms, and the like.

When you get up in the morning, the first thing you do is check emails and notifications on your mobile phone. A survey has revealed that internet users spend an average of seven hours a day online.

However, in some countries, these hours can extend up to ten hours, and one-third of people spend on social media sites. It is not a small amount of time you spend on the internet. This blog will tell you what technology does to your brain and how you can develop a healthy relationship with it.

How your brain responds to technology

When you overly use technology, it leads to depression, anxiety, and internet addiction disorder. As there are two types of food: super foods and junk foods, there are several types of technology and some of them can good.

When you contact technology, your brain releases different hormones: serotonin, dopamine, endorphins, oxytocin, adrenalin, and cortisol. Not all types of technology release all these hormones in your body.

Technology can be good as well as bad

As you have got to know the hormones your body release when you come across the technological environment, not all of them are bad. Healthy technology releases serotonin, endorphins, and oxytocin.

For example, certain apps help children learn and improve. They encourage them to do some creative work. This kind of technology is healthy and release good hormones. However, games like Candy Crush fall in bad technology because it releases dopamine that makes you addictive.

This pleasure neurochemical makes you happy for a short time and feels that pleasure again and again. You keep doing that activity. This is why such games can be addictive. Although you are using healthy technology like creative apps, it does not mean that you will spend six to seven hours of the day on it. It is not a junk technology like Candy Crush, but it is crucial to set a limit.

Emphasise tech dieting

Tech dieting allows you to choose healthy technology instead of junk technology. However, as you can eat pizza or soft drinks once in a while, you can use junk technology. For example, you can play Candy Crush and scroll your Instagram account.

However, it is crucial to note that everyone’s body behaves differently. Likewise, your brain responds to tech differently. For example, some people are more likely to be prone to diabetes even if they do not add sugary food in their diet than those who eat a lot of sugar.

Likewise, your brain can be quickly addictive to junk technology while your peers cannot be. If you belong to a family with a history of addiction, anxiety and depression with technology, you will have to be more careful with the usage.

Remember that toxic addiction can be complicated to get rid of. Make sure that you know where you have to stop. Although the impact of technology on your body and mind is still to be studied, research has revealed that teenagers are more susceptible to falling prey to toxic technology.

Tech detoxification

Tech detoxification is a must even if you are involved in healthy technology. To keep your body and mind healthy, it is crucial to step out, breathe in the fresh air, expose yourself to daylight, and sleep eight to nine hours. If you are in touch with healthy technology at the expense of these items, you compromise with your overall health.

Tech detoxification will lead to the removal of social media account, video games and other addictive resources from your mobile phone, so you could start paying attention to other things. Some people are so fond of technology that they do not hesitate to take out loans for unemployed to fund it. Stop doing so.

The bottom line

You can easily maintain a healthy relationship with technology if you stop using toxic technology. Understand when it is becoming addictive and when you should stop.

It is good to be in touch with technology, but it does not mean that you will spend most of the day doing that at the expense of other essential activities.

Understand how you feel and how your brain responds to a particular type of technology. Stop using that if you are encouraged to do it over and over.
